2011
C&C99 Fleet Update
Hello
Everyone,
We are
starting to get summer like weather and I hope that we will all get the
opportunity to enjoy our C&C 99’s throughout the summer.
We have the
Great 8 registered for the RCYC Open (West to East) Bobby McGee, Bear
Necessity, Demon’s Dance, Red Boat, Manhattan Transfer, Plum Danish, Winston
Churchill and Nemesis.
New for 2011
we have 6 brand new half hulls that will be awarded throughout the season. By
winning the ABYC Open Nemesis has won the first one for the season.
We are in the
process of getting plaques made and customizing each half hull for the
recipient. Starting with the RCYC Open we will have a white half hull available
for the presentation ceremonies at every regatta. We would like as many boats
as possible to be represented at the regatta awards ceremony so that other
sailors will see that the C&C 99 Fleet is the most active One Design Racer
Cruiser fleet in Lake Ontario. After the award ceremony we ask that each
recipient return the half hull to a Bear Necessity representative so that we
can get the half hull coloured and plaqued appropriately. We will be awarding
Nemesis their half hull and another one will be presented for the RCYC Open (if
applicable) Saturday evening of the PCYC Open.
The Bear will
once again be hosting an event for the 99 Fleet on the Saturday night at PCYC.
Rather than
award half hulls just to the winners as was done in the past we have come up
with a new and expanded criteria for the 2011 half hulls.
One would go
to the winner of the Swan’s Cup at the end of the season.
Three half
hulls would be allocated to the winners of the regatta’s. There would be no
repeat winner of a half hull. Nemesis won the ABYC Open, they will get a
half hull for that regatta. At the RCYC Open, if they were to win again they
would not be eligible to receive a second half hull. They would be presented
with one at the RCYC awards ceremony and have their pictures taken. The first 3
different winners of a regatta would get a half hull. In order to get two half
hulls one must win a regatta and the Swan’s Cup at the end of the season. The
two other half hulls will be awarded at the end of year. One would go to the
“most improved”. This would go the boat that had the best “improvement” in the
average score or as might be the case the least decline in their average score.
Eligible boats would be boats that raced in 4 or more regattas in 2010.
(Sleek, Winston, Primeur, Manhattan Transfer, Plum Danish III, Red Boat). Any
boat that won a regatta and received a half hull in 2011 would be excluded and
the Bear would be not included as the Swan’s Cup winner in 2010. All other
non-winners would be eligible for the Participation award. Each boat would get
one ballot for each race they entered and finished in the season series. The
more races they enter the more ballots they get. We would draw a ballot at the
end of the year and the winner would get the Participation award.
We hope that
the above criteria will encourage participation and pride of ownership.
The half
hulls were donated by Tartan Yachts. We have incurred costs to bring them
across the border and customize them with plaques and individual colour
schemes.
We have not
asked for any fleet dues for a number of years. In order to offset some of the
costs incurred for the half hulls, Swan’s Cup and other expenses, we are
suggesting that each owner submit $50.00 so that we can build up a bank account
to pay for some of these expenses. If you were to order your own half hull from
Tartan / C&C it would cost you almost $400 by the time you factor in
shipping and HST.
Please make
the cheques payable to Dexter Halsall or provide yours truly with cash prior to
the PCYC Open so that funds will be available to help in defraying some of the
costs.
We are
looking at a double digit entry starting line for the PCYC. For those of you
thinking of doing just a race or two why not chose to do one of the PCYC events
or the EYC event and see if we can set a record for the largest C&C 99
Fleet ever.
Thank you
very much,
Hope to see
all of you sometime during the summer.
